In a major relief to the aggrieved students, the Orissa High Court on Wednesday asked the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi to once again evaluate the answer sheets of those students who have approached the High Court alleging gross discrepancies in their Class-XII results that were published last month.

Vacation Bench of Justice Biswanath Rath asked the CBSE authorities to reevaluate the answer sheets engaging experts in relevant subjects and publish the results within three days, informed advocate Asim Amitav Dash, who had approached the court on behalf of at least 17 students. Three other students had also moved the court in separate petitions.

Dash said all those who approached the v court have been asked to apply for reevaluation of their papers in the CBSE Regional Office in Bhubaneswar by 2 pm on Thursday by depositing the requisite fees.

Alleging discrepancies in the marks they have been awarded, many students and their parents are protesting in front of the CBSE Regional Office in Bhubaneswar for over a week now. While a visiting team of CBSE officials from New Delhi last week had assured to look into the matter, the CBSE officials in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday had ruled out a possibility of reevaluation.

Finding no other alternative, some students had approached the High Court.

Meanwhile, the agitation over discrepancies in the publication of CBSE Class-XII results intensified on Wednesday as several parents and students resorted to an indefinite hunger strike in front of the CBSE Regional Office at Saheed Nagar in Bhubaneswar.

The agitators demanded a CBI probe into the alleged fiasco in the publication of results besides reevaluation of answer sheets.

A girl student became unconscious during the hunger strike and was hospitalised.
