RCM students to hold dharna near Raj Bhavan from today

MBA and MCA students of the city-based Regional College of Management (RCM) would stage an indefinite dharna in front of the Raj Bhavan here from Tuesday demanding the Governor’s intervention in the matter of issuing of final degree certificate in favour of the pass-out students of the college.

The students at a Press conference on Monday said they had urged the Governor to intervene in their issue and order the State Government for issuance of final degree certificates in favour of them. “The Governor had assured us that our problems would be addressed within seven days, but we could not get any information regarding the solution as 12 days have already passed,” said a student of the college, Raza Quadir.

According to Quadir, some students are still on hunger strike with very poor health conditions without having any response from the concerned authorities.“If the State Government does not take any steps to solve our problem, we will plan out new ways of protest in a democratic manner to get justice,” he added.

Earlier, the students had staged two rallies near the Raj Bhavan and the State Assembly demanding issue of certificates to them. The students had also conducted a mini marathon demanding justice for them.

Notably, due to a dispute over its admission into MBA course, the RCM has not been able to get certificates from the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) since 2009 and, hence, has failed to provide them to the pass-out students. The students’ stir entered the 70th day on Monday.
