MBA and MCA students of the Regional College of Management (RCM) here on Friday staged a demonstration in front of the State Assembly demanding issue of final degree certificates and BPUT registration cards in favour of the pass-out students.
More than 200 students of the college came in a procession from the Master Canteen Square to the lower PMG and staged the demonstration protesting against both the RCM management and the State Government for not solving their problem in spite of repeated demands. An MBA student, Swayam Mohapatra, pointed out that they have gone on hunger strike since February 11 demanding degree certificates. Due to a tussle between the RCM management and the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT), more than 1,500 students of MBA and MCA are yet to get their valid degree certificates since 2009, he lamented.
The students said they have already approached their college management, the Chief Minister’s Grievance Cell, Minister of Employment and Technical Education and Training Pratap Keshari Deb, Governor SC Jamir, the BPUT Vice-Chancellor, the University Grants Commission (UGC) and other authorities to solve their problems, but in vain. “Our hunger strike has entered the 25th day today, but neither the college management nor the State Government is coming forward to pay heed to our demands,” said the students.
