RCM students call off stir, praise media for support

MBA and MCA students of the Regional College of Management Autonomous (RCMA), who had staged an indefinite dharna for 86 days demanding issuance of certificates in favour of passed-out students, called off their agitation on Thursday following an assurance by the governing body of the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) that they would be provided their certificates soon.

The students said their movement achieved success due to their commitment to the cause. Despite all odds and noncooperation from the college authorities, they did it after a fight of 86 long days.

“Finally, the Government authorities agreed to issue certificates. Our demands will be fulfilled be very soon,” said RCM student leader Raza Quadir, adding, “Our movement will be an example for the students of private colleges fighting for their causes.”

Another student said they didn’t give up in the middle in spite of the police assaulting them at midnight. They continued their dharna in front of their college and later at the lower PMG to get their demands fulfilled.

The students praised the media for highlighting their issue and keenly watching the situation, as a result of which the police and other officials could not get a chance to harass them.
