A 20-member team (15 Muaythai atheletes and 5 officials) represented Odisha successfully under the banner of Odisha Muaythai (Thai Boxing) Union at the 11th Odisha State Muaythai Championship 2023 which was held on May 13 and 14 at GCD High School Ground, Rayagada.
International Federation of Muaythai Associations (International Olympic Committee) associated with the Indian Organisation United Muaythai Association India arranged the Umai Natiomal Muaythai Championship 2023 at EVP Film City, Chennai from May 25 to 30.
From Rayagada, Sushil Kumar Majhi got gold medal, Parameswar Majhi a silver, Sunil Dishari a bronze. The team was led by Technical Official Chandra Sekhar Bahuk, Team Coach Laxman Nayak, Team Manager Sameer Sarangi and Umesh Nayak were present.
After the grand success of the team, they were welcomed through a programme arranged by Arts Temple at Rayagada Railway Station where Dr BLN Prusty joined as chief guest and Dr VLN Raju as guest of honour. Others who attended include District Sports Officer Dr Mamata Sahu, State Union honourary general secretary Sekh Alinur, Dr Gyana Ranjan Mohanty, Jyoti Prakash Shoren, Shyamand Maharana, Satish Kumar Ladi, Pramila Kumari Mohapatra, Ashok Dash, Jagat Kumar Satpathy, Itishree Mishra and Bimal Kumar Parida. They felicitated the Team members with bouquets and trophies.
