Ravenshaw withdraws proposed fee hike

Published on:

Buckling under pressure caused by students’ consistent demonstrations, the Ravenshaw University on Saturday withdrew its proposal to hike the readmission fees by Rs 600.

Notably, the Ravenshaw Chhatra Kriyanushthan Committee had been spearheading a movement against the decision for many days now.

Student leaders Ranjan Samal, Ashok Tandi, Paresh Mulia, Ranapratap Dash, Rajesh Das, Subrat Mallick, Srutimayee Majhi, Sanghamitra Mallick, Anisha Dash and Hemant Dash have sat on dharnas many times.

“Due to hike in fees in different courses, financially weak students are forced to work as traffic volunteers, doing tuitions and part time jobs to continue their education in the historic institution,” they lamented.

They also said some students are also dependent on the Rs 5 Aahar and are mortgaging their valuables for the education. As the fees are hiking on regular intervals seems that the university is turning into a private university, members alleged.
