Ravenshaw VC urged to revoke hostel fee hike

Published on:
The All India DSO has urged the Ravenshaw University Vice-Chancellor to revoke the decision of increasing hostel fees for students and pay increased remunerations to hostel employees from the university account.
In a letter to the VC, the students’ organisation argued that if the hostel fees are increased, poor students would be unable to stay in hostels and thus would be deprive of studying. The organisation urged the VC to consider their demands keeping in view of the Arjun Sengupta Committee Report-2009 which states that 84.4 per cent of Odisha people are unable to spend Rs 20 per day.
Stating that the ‘undemocratic and exorbitant’ fee hikes in the hostels has become a matter of headache for the boarders, they too placed other demands for consideration.
The demands include revocation of Establishment Fee hike decision, showing of the monthly accounts of income and expenditures of hostels and breakups of annual fee and its accounts, stopping of collection of Development Fees, Annual Function, Ganesh puja and Saraswati puja fees .
