Vice-Chancellor of Ravenshaw University Prof BC Tripathy on Sunday declined to reconsider the decision of postponing electioneering for elections to the university’s Students’ Union.
His statement came in the wake of the Government’s notification on Saturday scheduling Students’ Union elections in the State on October 8. Election in the university would be held if normalcy prevails in the campus, Prof Tripathy said. “Unless the situation in the campus improves, we’ll not budge an inch from our stand on polls,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor said normalcy in the campus is the most essential prerequisite to hold elections and there would be no compromise on it. The university authorities are sticking to their stand mainly due to a dharna staged by two non-students, who are seeking admissions to the PG course of International Studies despite the last date for the same has expired since long and there is no vacant seat in the course.
The authorities are also taking umbrage to the fact that a handful of students are giving moral support to these strikers.
