Ravenshaw V-C flays 'baseless' media reports

Reacting to reports published in certain sections of the media questioning the process of selection of contractual, guest and visiting faculties in the Ravenshaw University, university Vice-Chancellor Prof BC Tripathy on Monday said no wrongs have been made in selecting these temporary faculties over these years.

Reports have alleged that the university has selected the temporary faculties without making due public notice or advertisements. The reports also said that faculties having no requisite qualifications were engaged by the university to teach students. Claiming all these reports to be “unfounded” and “motivated”, the Vice-Chancellor said contractual faculties are selected as per the due advertisements in accordance to the UGC guidelines.

“However, in the case of guest and visiting faculties, the heads of the departments in their individual capacity engage them as per the requirement to cover the syllabus,” Prof Tripathy said, asserting that in no case the rules governing these engagements have been flouted. It may be mentioned that against a requirement of some 800 faculties to cater to the academic requirement of some 8,000 students of the university, the State Government in 2006 sanctioned only

153 faculties.  While the recruitment process began in the year 2008, only 127 posts of faculties have been filled up by now. Similarly, the processes of recruitments of another 114 faculty members sanctioned last year are on.looking at the huge shortfall of faculties, academic activities here are mainly carried out by contractual, guest and visiting faculties.
