Amid the ongoing row over hoisting the National Flag in the educational institutions, hundreds of studentson Saturday submitted a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor of the Ravenshaw University here demanding to hoist the Tricolour in the campus every day.
And the university authorities promptly and proudly accepted the demand and assured the students that the practice of hoisting the flag prominently in the campus daily would begin from the Independence Day this year.
“I have assured the students that a vantage location in the campus will be identified soon to hoist the National Flag every day from August 15 this year,” Vice-Chancellor Prof PK Sarangi said, adding that the university would bear the entire cost for this act of nationalism.
Earlier in the day, students owing allegiance to the ABVP held a massive rally under the leadership of Ravenshaw University Students’ Union general secretary Sankalp Patnaik and moved around the campus holding atop the National Flag and raising slogans like Bharat Mata Ki Jai before submitting the memorandum to the VC.
“Hoisting of the Tricolour every day in the educational institutions will send a strong message to the students to inculcate the feeling of nationalism and patriotism,” said ABVP State general secretary Abhilash Panda, who was present in the campus when the students staged the rally.
