Even though police have issued an advisory against posting of obscene videos on social media platforms and warned of stringent punishment, the menace continues unabated in various parts of the State.
A student of Ravenshaw University here was arrested on Friday for allegedly posting his girlfriend’s obscene photos on social media and assaulting her in the university premises.
The accused identified as Subhrajit Ray, a final year BBA student, was arrested after the girl lodged a complaint with the Malgodown police in the connection.
As per the complaint, Subhrajit posted the victim’s obscene photos on social media after they had a disagreement over some issue. The victim was also physically assaulted by the accused inside the university campus, said a police official.
“The matter has been handed over to the Gender Sensitisation Committee against Sexual Harassment for investigation. Disciplinary action will be taken against the student, if he is found guilty,” said Ravenshaw University Vice-Chancellor Ishan Kumar Patro.
Earlier, the university authorities had suspended Subhrajit for his alleged involvement in a clash that took place at the lalitgiri Hostel.
