A resolution urging the Union Government to confer 'Bharat Ratna' posthumously on late legendary leader Biju Patnaik was passed here unanimously on Saturday.
The demand was strongly raised here once again, when BJD activists gathered at the local 'Biju Bhavan' to offer tributes to the great soul on the occasion of his 106-th birth anniversary.
The speakers, who took part in the commemorative function, stressed the need of honouring a tall leader like Bijubabu with the highest civilian award of the land in view of the special and unique place he had acquired in the national life of the country in his lifetime.
Many leading Mayurbhanj BJD leaders including former Minister Sarojini Hembram, former Odisha Assembly Deputy Speaker Sanand Marandi, former District Special Development Council Chairman Debashis Marandi, former MLAs Chhatish Chandra Dhal and Bhadab Hansdah and former Baripada Municipality Chairman Krushnanand Mohanty attended the function.
