Balangir Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Sameer Kumar Satpathy on Wednesday flagged off a ‘Sachetanata Rath’ to create awareness on Green Mahanadi Mission in the district.
This Rath will move through different villages of the Deogaon, Saintala and Titilagarh areas of the Balangir Forest Range to spread awareness among the masses about the need of massive plantation to save the Mahanadi river and its ecology, said the DFO.
Under this mission, 5,74,000 plants would be planted on both sides of the Tel river up to one km in both Government and private lands. As per earlier discussions, the villagers are willing for plantation of a variety of trees.
The Sachetanata Rath’s journey will come to an end on July 2.
