The Geographical Indication (GI) Registry office on Friday served a show-cause notice to the West Bengal Government asking it why the GI tag given to ‘Banglar Rasogolla’ would not be withdrawn.
The show-cause notice was issued to the West Bengal State Food Processing and Horticulture Development Corporation after Bhubaneswar-based Regional Development Trust Chairman Ramesh Chandra Sahoo filed an application demanding cancellation of the GI tag to Banglar Rasogolla.
In its complaint, the trust alleged that West Bengal had received the GI status for ‘Banglar Rasogolla’ from GI Registry office by submitting false evidence and data.
In February 2018, the Odisha Government had applied for GI tag for ‘Odishara Rasagolla’(Rasagolla of Odisha).
