Sambalpur BJD MlA Dr Raseswari Panigrahi, who recently completed one year in politics after her retirement as Professor and HoD of the Gynaecology Department of the then VSS Medical College Hospital, made her plans public for development of her constituency, comprising Burla, Hirakud and Sambalpur towns.
These three towns now come under one urban body, the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation, declared by the State Government a few months back.
“I have to cover five hundred meters. Out of it, I have covered 100 metres only. And for the next 400 meters, I need cooperation of one and all to materialise the dreams I have seen for this place and its neglected people,” said Dr Panigrahi at a Media conference here.
Stating that the region continued to remain neglected under different leaderships, the MlA said, “The region is sure to see new ray of hopes under the leadership of Naveen Patnaik. Under-construction bridge near the Nelson Mandela Chowk over river Mahanadi and the proposal for construct of affordable buildings to expand the township area bear proof of developmental initiatives.”
She presented a long list of works under 11 different departments like PHED, PWD, Irrigation, Education, Health, Sports and Transport which have either been completed or under progress in her constituency.
She informed that nine projects have been selected for the current fiscal which include a ring road for Burla from Mundoghat to Ashok Niwas, improvement of the Hirakud airstrip, 36-km-long outer ring road around Sambalpur city, six children parks, massive plantation in Sambalpur, 300-acre Theme Park at Hirakud, an entertainment park at Ayodhya sarovar (inside Mahanadi river), construction of an Idco tower, development of the Budharaja hill and and three mega housing projects.
Dr Panigrahi presented an information brochure on Sambalpur site for the proposed IIM, Odisha recommended by the State Government to the Centre. She said the State Government has made it clear to the Centre that Sambalpur deserves the coveted institution the most.
