The Forest personnel on Saturday night rescued a rare and endangered turtle from Koro village under Kendrapada block. The turtle’s colour is yellow and length is only 21 cm while its width 15 cm. Meanwhile, the turtle has been kept at Kendrapada Forest Range office.
According to forester Mousumi Das, the Kendrapara Forest Range personnel have asked turtle experts to pay a visit to the district and identity the rare turtle.
The turtle experts from Bhubaneswar are going to pay a visit within a day or two to examine and identify the species, as more research works needed due to its yellow colour.
Some villagers of Koro on Saturday had spotted the rare turtle and later believing it to be the incarnation of lord Jagannath had started worshipping it in large numbers.
Meanwhile, the Forest sources said that the species might be a Chinese softshell turtle.
