A rare golden-colour turtle has been found in Baleswar district. Locals rescued the reptile from a farmland at Sajanpur village in the Soro area on Sunday.
On Monday, it was released in a freshwater source in the Kuldiha sanctuary, said DFO Biswaraj Panda.
IFS officer Susanta Nanda shared a video of the wonder turtle swimming in water in a vessel. He mentioned, “Most probably it was an albino. One such aberration was recorded by locals in Sindh a few years back. Mark the pink eyes, one indicative feature of albinism.”
In March this year, an albino turtle was found at the Rushikulya river mouth at Podampeta in Ganjam district during mass nesting of olive Ridley turtles. An albino weighs up to 50 kg.
However, the turtle found in Baleswar district appeared completely canary yellow.
