The Simulia police of Baleswar district have launched a manhunt to arrest a 45-year-old rape accused, who committed offence against a 15-year-old minor girl. The accused Sankar Das of Edtal village under the Basudevpur police station of Bhadrak district, after kidnapping the victim from village Abajana under Simulia block on November 27, had kept her in captivity and assaulted her physically.
According to police, Das and the girl’s family were known to each other. Das had also offered a marriage proposal between his son and the victim girl. The girl’s family turned down the proposal stating that she was a minor.
Even after rejection of the proposal, Das used to visit the girl’s house. On November 27, the accused also visited the girl’s house while her parents and no other family members were present. He took the girl in a motorbike in some pretexts. After bringing her to Basudevpur, he committed the offence.
The girl’s mother searched for her and traced her in Basudevpur. The girl was rescued from Das’ house on Sunday. Investigating police officer K Mohapatra said, “The medical examination of the victim is in progress. Raids are continuing to nab the accused, who is still at large.”
