Hundreds of Congress activists led by party veteran lalatendu Bidyadhar Mahapatra and former Puri Member of legislative Assembly (MlA) Umaballav Rath and CP Singh went in a silent procession from the Gundicha temple along the Bada Danda to the main Jagannath Temple demanding a CBI probe into the rape and murder of a minor blind girl and Rs 20 lakh financial assistance to the bereaved family, besides suspension of the Sadar police inspector.
They alleged the real culprits are being shielded by the police at the instance of ruling politicians and the Sadar police were acting at the instance of political bosses.
A CBI investgation can expose the real perpetrators of this ghastly crime, they said.The activists lighted hundreds of candles in front of the Srimandir for salvation of the victim girl’s soul.
