In an incident of mob justice, irate villagers lynched a rape accused at Singakhunta under Soro tehsil of Baleswar district on Thursday.The deceased was identified as Basant Singh (35) of the same village. As per reports, Basant entered the house of a married woman in the village finding her alone and allegedly raped her. When the victim screamed for help, some villagers rushed to her rescue and caught hold of the accused and beat him black and blue.
Later, the critically injured accused tied him to a tree, following which he succumbed due to the injuries and sizzling heat.On receiving information, Soro police led by IIC Madhumkta Mohanty went to spot at around 9.30 pm for an investigation. However, no police complaint was registered in this connection till filing of the report.
