Assistant Engineer, R and B Section, Bhubaneswar, Sanjib Kumar Nanda was arrested by Vigilance for demanding and accepting bribe of `20,000 for preparation of bills.
Complainant Amlan Kesari Behera of Kolathia village under Khandagiri police station, who is a contractor, had completed construction of three rooms of RCC roof building in around 860 sqft area inside the Government residential quarter No.VII-DS-2/2, Unit-III, Bhubaneswar under the supervision of accused Assistant Engineer Nanda. But Nanda took measurement of the work and reduced the roof / construction work with an ulterior motive and prepared bill for `4,93,056 against the work value of `10 lakh.
When the complainant protested the bill, accused Nanda demanded `50,000 as bribe for preparation of bill for the rest amount. Subsequently, on request of the complainant, he agreed to take `20,000. Finding no other alternative, the complainant reported to the Vigilance.
Nanda was caught red handed by the Vigilance sleuth on Monday.
