Former Sanakhemundi Congress MlA Ramesh Jena, who was arrested in connection with the bombing of a local corporator’s house and three others, including his father, were sent to jail after a local court rejected their bail pleas.

The former lawmaker’s father Arakshita Jena, three associates Bapi Panda, Jackey Patra and Jagada were produced before the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) Court here.

Jena’s father and the three associates were also sent to the Brahmapur Circle Jail following rejection of their bail pleas by the court.

All the other arrested persons were sent to a 14-day judicial custody.

A team of the Brahmapur police on Sunday arrested the former MlA along with his three associates from Bhubaneswar in connection with the February 29 bomb explosion on the house of the local corporator.

Meanwhile, police officials maintained that investigation has also initiated to find out the alleged links between Jena and the gangster Dhalsamant brothers.

Notably, the former MlA had earlier been arrested in 2011 but was granted bail by the Orissa High Court on the condition that he would not enter Brahmapur without prior permission of city police.

Meanwhile, terming the arrest of Jena as politically motivated, Jeypore Congress MlA Tara Prasad Bahinipati met Southern Range IG Amitabh Thakur and sought to know the circumstances of the arrest.

He warned that the party would gherao the Southern Range DIG office on March 11 protesting the ‘illegal’ arrest.
