Rama Devi students continue protest

Continuing their stir, the students of Rama Devi (RD) Women’s University on Saturday held a demonstration before the university building demanding immediate acquisition of land for the proposed second campus of the university.

They also demanded retention of autonomous status for Rama Devi Women’s College’s Plus Two and Plus Three facilities.

The students said the Rama Devi College was a famous institution and the Plus Two and Plus Three students are its identity.  However, the Government has decided to separate the Plus Two and Plus Three colleges after it was declared a university.

They further alleged that the Government is playing with the careers of students by delaying establishment of a second campus.

The students decided to continue their agitation as they have not yet received any satisfying reply from the Higher Education Department.

Earlier on May 30, 2015, the Rama Devi Women’s Autonomous College was upgraded to Rama Devi Women’s University by the Government.

Notably, the Government had initially selected a plot of land at Daspur on the outskirts of the city for the second campus of the RD Women’s University. However, the plan was dropped after the location was claimed to be too remote.
