After Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik ordered the State Crime Branch to investigate into the lewd remarks on some Rama Devi Women’s University girls in social networking site Facebook, the prime accused Sujit Sahu was arrested from Mahanga in Cuttack district on Monday night.

Crime Branch Special DG BK Sharma confirmed about the arrest of main accused Sahu and said he was arrested from a half-constructed house in Mahanga. The CB has taken him on a three-day remand to unravel more facts and ascertain if any associates were involved.

From the preliminary investigations, it was known that Sahu has a connection with the incident, sources said.

Notably, Sahu is the accountholder of Aarohi Creations on which photos of some girls of the Ramadevi Women’s University were posted with obscene captions.

The CM twitted. “Prime accused Sujit Sahu in the cyber crime case arrested last night. Hope this serves as a strong deterrent & such acts are not repeated.” Students of a number of city-based educational institutions had met the Chief Minister at his Assembly chamber on Monday demanding a CB probe into the incident.

The students had lodged a complaint on Saturday last at the Sahid Nagar police station against Sahu accusing him of misusing their photographs with objectionable captions.

Meanwhile, some girls of Rourkela have alleged that the accused took their photographs and posted them in Facebook, causing them much embarrassment.
