A leading socio-cultural organisation “Sanskarbadi” celebrated “Sastriya Odia Bhasa Divas” here on Wednesday. Many dignitaries and intellectuals led by SMIT Group of Institutions president Bhagaban Gantayat went in a procession and garlanded the statue of many freedom fighters and social reformers.

The Sanskarbadi activists warned of launching a State wide movement if the Government fails to introduce Odia language in all its correspondences. Members of voluntary organisation Subhadra and Brahmapur Vikash Parishad participated. Mr Odisha-2015 winner Prabhat Kumar was felicitated.

The activists expressed their serious concern that even though Odia language is billed as the first language from the Indo-Aryan linguistic group and became the sixth language of the country to get “classical language” status on March 11 last year, no constructive steps for further expansion and propagation of the language has yet been taken by the Government.
