Rajnath Singh to visit State on February 18, 19

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh would visit Odisha on February 18 and 19 to personally assess the preparedness of the security forces fighting Maoists.

With a huge presence of Central forces in neighbouring Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, the Red rebels are sneaking into Odisha through porous borders. So, the State Government is asking for two more battalions of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).

Singh is visiting the States affected by Maoists after the Centre framed a new policy to combat the leftwing Extremism.

The Union Minister would visit Koraput and other Maoist-hit districts. With a focus on development under the new strategy, he would discuss the blueprint prepared by his Ministry and is likely to press for deadlines for implementing the projects.

The Union Home Ministry is stressing the need to build roads and improve infrastructure in the Maoists strongholds.

Singh would move into CRPF and BSF camps and COBRA establishments to meet the troopers and officers of the CAPFs and review their operations.
