The State Government on Monday appointed Dr Rajendra Prasad Sharma as new Commissioner of the Commissionerate Police of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack. He will be the fourth officer to hold the post.
Sharma, a 1986-batch IPS officer, who is currently posted as IGP of the National Security Guards (NSG) in New Delhi, will succeed Sunil Ray. He had earlier served as SP in Baleswar, Kalahandi and Brahmapur and then as DIG (Central Range).
Outgoing commissioner Ray has been transferred to the State police headquarters as Additional DG, Human Rights Protection Cell. Ray, a 1987-batch IPS officer, had been the commissioner of police from May 4, 2012 after succeeding BK Sharma. Ray while speaking to the reporters here said that he has given much effort to streamline the Commissionerate system to control crime in the city. "I've given priority for the immediate registration of FIRs lodged by the people. We have detected successfully almost all the cases," Ray claimed, adding, "Our performance was much above than the State benchmark."
