The State Government has accorded university status to the Rajendra Autonomous College of Balangir.
As per a notification of the Higher Education Department on March 2, the Government altered the territorial jurisdiction of the Sambalpur University by establishing the new university, Rajendra University at Balangir, with effect from the date of publication of the notification.
The colleges in Balangir and Nuapada districts would be affiliated to the new university. Additional faculty positions for the university would begin soon, sources said.
Established in 1944, the autonomous institution has been accredited by NAAC as B++.
