Rajas medicos' fate again hangs in balance

Published on:

The Supreme Court on Friday ordered status quo on its earlier interim order, which had debarred the Sardar Rajas Medical College students from attending classes in other medical colleges, till the final hearing scheduled for January 12.

Besides, the Apex Court issued notices to the Sardar Rajas Medical College and the State Government to submit their contentions on the day of next hearing.

With this, the court has put a stay on the Orissa High Court’s order to go ahead with the absorption of medicos in private and government colleges in the State.

As per the interim order passed on January 5, all 124 Sardar Rajas students, who were relocated to five medical colleges in the State, had been barred from attending classes till January 8 (Friday).

Earlier to it, the High Court had asked the Government to submit an action taken report (ATR) on the steps taken by it for revival of Sardar Rajas Medical College in Kalahandi district within two weeks.

The directive of the court came after the State Government submitted a compliance report on the relocation of Sardar Rajas Medical College students in two Government and three private medical colleges.

The HC had directed the Government to ensure that regular classes of the relocated Sadar Rajas Medical College students must begin by January 6 and, if required, extra classes be taken for completing their courses in time.
