Rains to increase in State from Aug 31

As rains seem to have taken a break in the State, the latest statistics revealed that there is a nearly 10-per cent deficit rainfall than the normal in August.

But if the Indian Meteorology Department’s (IMD) predictions come true, then from August 31, the State is likely to experience a fresh spells of rains.

The IMD Regional Office said the southwest monsoon has been subdued. But light to moderate rains accompanied with thunderstorms and lightning are expected at some places in the State in the next 24 hours.

“Due to the prevalent monsoon trough, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts during the next 24 hours,” the IMD said.

The weather office’s prediction is expected to trigger hope among the farming community who are already apprehending crop loss and a drought-like situation due to less rainfall in August.
