Rainfall activity is likely to decrease in the State till October 19 as the Regional Office of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) here has issued no rainfall warning.

However, a low pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal around October 20, which may trigger rains across the State.

“A cyclonic circulation is likely to form over north Andaman Sea and neighbourhood around October 18. It would move west northwestwards towards west-central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal becoming low pressure area around October 20,” the IMD said.

On the other hand, conditions are very likely to be favourable for withdrawal of southwest monsoon from some parts of interior Odisha during the next two days, the weather office added.

The forecasted low pressure area may move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a depression over west-central Bay of Bengal during the bOctober 21 to 27, the IMD had said in its North Indian Ocean Extended Range Outlook for Cyclogenesis.

The system would be named “Cyclone Sitrang” in the case of its further intensification into a cyclonic storm.
