Rains now stall K'jhar irrigation project

Unpreparedness of contract agency SEW to start work and rainy season have acted as stumbling blocks for the Kanpur Irrigation Project at Basudepur of Joda block.

Though the district administration had geared up and started the dam project work recently after convincing the protestors, which had been stalled for years due to opposition by the locals, yet the timing of the work has slowed it down. Due to incessant rains, the constriction works have yet to pick up the speed.

Sources reveal that on Thursday last, 30 platoons of force and 60 officers and four magistrates were deployed by the Keonjhar district administration to resume the work.

When contacted, Associate Vice- President of SEW SVS Naidu, told, “We had already told to the Collector, Keonjhar to not resume the work in rainy season when we generally stop the project work. Rather, we had suggested to start in the month of September. Secondly, it will take minimum one month time to fully gear up the man power and machineries to work at full speed.”
