Odisha is likely to witness rains and thundershowers for at least four days from Wednesday due to the impact of a low pressure formed over south Andaman Sea.
The State Government asked all Revenue Divisional Commissioners and district Collectors to ensure protection of paddy crop in their areas.
“Farmers may be advised through field functionaries to keep their harvested paddy under cover in a safe place so as to avoid any loss or damage,” the Deputy Relief Commissioner wrote to Collectors.
Heavy rainfall is also likely in some parts of the coastal areas, the letter said.
Meanwhile, the IMD cautioned fishermen to be cautious while venturing into the sea.
