The local meteorological centre here predicted rains and thunder showers at one or two places over south Odisha during next 24 hours due to the impact of the severe cyclonic storm Madi over west central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal which moved slightly northwards during past six hours and lay centred at over west central Bay of Bengal 395 km south of Gopalpur.
It would move nearly northwards slowly for some time and then re-curve southwestwards and weaken gradually, it said.
Distant warning signal number two (DW-II) kept hoisted at Paradip and Gopalpur Ports.
The MeT centre also forecast that the cold wave, which has been sweping many parts of the State since Monday with the temperature dropping to 6.6 degrees Celsius in Phulbani, is likely to prevail over some other parts of the State during next few days and subsequently intensify.
