Railway apathy decried in Balangir

Published on:

Members of the Railway Users’ Committee Balangir led by Bikram Bohidar, advocate Bhabani Satpathy and Gopalji Panigrahi staged a “mass dharna” before the Station Master’s office at the Balangir railway station on Saturday morning.

The committee members criticised the railway authorities’ apathy towards fulfilling the demands of Balangir people which include extension of the Sambalpur-Jammu-Tawai Express train up to Balangir, extension of the Sambalpur-Puri Express up to Balangir and installation of coach indicators in the station.

The members threatened to resort to further agitation if their demands are not fulfilled at the earliest.

Balangir Station Manager Nikunja Bihari Behera, however, said coach indicators at the station would be installed soon. As regards the other demands, they need policy decisions at the highest level, for which the users’ committee should contact higher railway authorities, he told mediapersons.
