As part of the nationwide Rail Roko call given for withdrawal of the Centre’s new farm laws, the Akhil Bharatiya Krushak Sangarsh Samanway Samita held a Rail Roko stir at the Brahmapur railway station from 12 pm to 4 pm on Thursday.
Members of farmer organisations squatted on the railway track for more than two hours, for which train services were affected. Later, police and other security personnel cleared the railway track and took several agitators into custody. The protestors demanded enactment of a law to ensure minimum support price (MSP) for farm produce, payment of compensation to the families of the farmers, who died during the agitation and withdrawal of the cases lodged against the farmers.
Farmer leaders Bhal Chandra Sarangi, Basant Nanda, Sankar Sahu, Madhu Sudan Sethi, Rajib Lochan Panda, Bidyadhar Jena, Udhav Mahakuda, Shibani Mishra, Judhistir Behera and Siba Prasad Mohapatra were present.
