A local court on Friday excluded names of former Minister Raghunath Mohanty and his wife Pritilata Mohanty from a domestic violence (DV) case filed by their daughter-in-law Barsa Swony Choudhury.
Barsa had lodged a domestic violence petition in the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate Court against her husband Rajashree Mohanty and parent-in-laws, Raghunath and Pritilata. Earlier the SDJM Court had rejected the appeal seeking dropping of names of Raghunath and his wife from the case.
However, the District and Sessions Judge Court has accepted it, much to the relief of Mohanty, a former five-time MlA of Basta, and his wife.
A case of dowry torture case had been registered against the couple, their married daughter Rupashree and son-in-law Suvendu Madhual Barsa’s complaint on March 13, 2013.
“We moved to the District Judge Court with an appeal seeking exclusion of Raghunath Mohany and his wife’s names after the SDJM court rejected our appeal. The court conducted a hearing on our appeal today. The couple’s names have been excluded from the DV charge case,” said their counsel Harekrushna Dash.
While Basra has sought maintenance from her husband Rajashree, the latter has filed a case seeking a divorce. Both these cases are now pending in the Family Court for disposal.
