Radio Namaskar, the first community radio of Odisha, received prestigious mBillionth South Asia Award, 2013 for its innovation in community broadcasting and especially integration of new technologies with community radio.
The award aims at promotion and facilitation in building a campaign and advocacy in mobile for mass empowerment and inclusive growth, constituted by Digital Empowerment Foundation and Vodafone Foundation.
Radio Namaskar was selected for its children based radio episode ‘Chala School Ku Jiba’ (lets go to school). It was not a radio programme episode but a campaign which made 165 schools zero dropouts.
Radio Namaskar is the only mass communication platform of the State to receive such prestigious award. Earlier, it also received National Community Radio Award from the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting twice and South Asia Manthan Award.
