A set of radar of about 16-tonne weight would be established at Gopalpur in Ganjam district soon in order to gather weather readings.
The radar would be set up within six months jointly by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Bharat Heavy Electrical limited (BHEl) at a cost of over Rs14 crore, sources said.
India Metrological Department (IMD) Bhubaneswar centre Director Sarat Chandra Sahu, ISRO New Delhi chief Dr S Bhatia and many concerned officials conducted a on-the-spot survey on Thursday. They held discussions on weather-related issues and looked into the construction of building being undertaken by the Brahmapur wing of the PWD for the purpose.
