Quarry mishap: No headway in rescue ops

Published on:

Despite best efforts by Army Engineering team, NDRF and ODRAF personnel to rescue the two workers trapped inside a stone quarry near Bariput in Koraput district, the duo are yet to be rescued.

However, due to the blasting carried out by the Army team, a JCB excavator which was buried under the huge stones was detected on Saturday. Sources said the rescue operations might take another two to three days.

Meanwhile, the All Odisha Contractors’ Association in a Press conference in Bhubaneswar on Saturday expressed surprise that no action has been taken against the construction company DD Builders, though ten days have passed since the mishap in the stone quarry.

The association alleged that no action has been taken against the company because it has contacts with some influential people in the State Secretariat.

Even though an FIR has been lodged against the construction company DD Builders, the firm has been awarded the contract to complete the pending work of Bomikhal Flyover in Bhubaneswar, alleged president of the association Prabhat Das. However, Roads and Buildings Executive Engineer Ranjit Kumar Sahu refuted the charge that DD Builders has been given responsibility to complete the unfinished work of Bomikhal flyover.
