Quadcopter again flies over Jagannath Temple

In an incident raising concerns over the security of the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri, a quadcopter was seen hovering repeatedly over the 12th-century shrine at around 10.15 am on Sunday, reports said.

An organisation named ‘Voice of Common Man’ has drawn the attention of Puri SP Sarthak Sarangi to the incident. It has lodged a complaint with the SP mentioning that a Public Interest litigation (PIl) was filed in the Orissa High Court seeking judicial intervention to impose flying restrictions over and around the temple and declare the shrine as a ‘no-flying zone’,

It may be recalled that a quadcopter had hovered over the temple in 2014 and managed to capture aerial videos and photos of the shrine. The videos and photos were later uploaded in YouTube and Facebook and did rounds on social media.

Following the incident, the Puri district administration was asked to ensure 24×7 patrolling at the four towers around the temple. Currently, there is no such patrolling at the towers, as a result of which the hovering of quadcopter over the temple on Sunday went unnoticed by police and the district administration, sources said.
