Residents of Puri led by Subash Chandra Sahu and DR Sarangi met the Khordha Road DRMO recently and gave him a memorandum demanding installation of lights and construction of sidewalls alongside the railway tracks within the city limits. The memorandum specified that the railway tracks running through the city from Huluhulia bridge to the Puri station covering a distance of about two kilometer are having no side walls and no lighting systems.
“Since the railway tracks running within the city remain in dark, many accidents take place causing loss of human lives. Besides, blowing of engine horns while passing the city limits is posed as a major contributor to noise pollution as the horn sound is beyond the prescribed limits for the city,” said one Prasanna lenka. High decibel sound of engine horns causes difficulties for students as well as aged and heart patients residing in the areas, he added.
