The Puri district administration on Sunday appraised National Green Tribunal (NGT) Chairman Justice Swatantar Kumar regarding the actions taken on the tribunal’s directives.
The NGT chief took stock of the progress made in this regard at a meeting with the concerned officials held here.
The NGT, while adjudicating a PIl filed by an NGO, had directed the district administration to take legal action against the Coastal Regulation Zone violators, minimise air pollution at the Swargadwar crematorium located along the beach, ensure treatment of effluents emanating from the Shree Jagannath Temple at the Pejnullakona and to mitigate pollution in the sea beach.
District Magistrate Arabind Agarwal, Additional District Magistrate Udhab Charan Majhi, Puri Konark Development Authority (PKDA) Planning Member SK Panigrahi and Puri Municipality Executive Officer RK Pattnaik apprised the NGT Chairman about the actions taken in these regards.
The NGT chief declined to comment on the outcome of the discussions to the media, saying the matter was sub-judice. Earlier in the morning, Justice Kumar offered prayers at the Shree Jagannath Temple.
