Puri police launch FB accounts to help public

Puri Superintendent of Police Asish Kumar Singh on Tuesday launched the Facebook accounts puripolice@gmail.com and nabakalebar.policeportal@gmail.com to facilitate better interaction between the public and the police.

The portal would contain telephone numbers of the Police Control Room, the email Ids of police officers and the Superintendent of Police. This is the first of its kind in the State. These special arrangements are made to render better police service to visitors during the Nabakalebar festival and Rath Yatra of lord Jagannath scheduled for June 2015.

Besides, a toll-free number 1800 200 2524 was announced to get police assistance. Tourists from outside the State and the country can use it to get police help, Singh said.

Five complaint-cum-suggestion boxes were also installed at the Shree Jagannath Temple main entrance Singhadwar, railway station, bus-stand and the Sea Beach and Sunargouranga areas of CT Road. The boxes would be opened at regular intervals and action would be initiated after evaluating the suggestions, the SP Singh said.

A criminal audit of every family living in slums of the city would be made to flush out criminals taking shelter in the slums. To mitigate harassments by fake travel and tour operators, Singh directed all the operating agencies to get registered within a fortnight or else all the unregistered ones would be closed.

To mitigate tourist harassment, a team comprising the Government Railway Police (GRP), the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the city police has been formed to drive out dalals and fake travel agents from the railway station and hawkers from the bus-stand. It has also been decided not to allow auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers inside the railway station and bus-stand, said Singh.
