Puri medical college work hangs for a week

Published on:

The work for a Government medical college and hospital was suspended for a week as hundreds of women of Baliguali village under Puri Sadar block staged protest at the work site on Saturday demanding relocation of the hospital site.

Notably, the Chief Minister had laid the foundation stone for the medical college and hospital there recently.

Sub-Collector Madhusudan Dash and Tehasildar Subhananda Mahapatra along with police officers met the protestors and held discussion with them. The women told the officers that since the hospital site covers their village grave yard, road and water bodies, they want the site to be shifted to another place.  They suggested that the hospital can be shifted to a place near the Puri-Konark Marine Drive road. The discussion remained inconclusive. The district administration allowed villagers two days’ time to rethink over the issue.
