Puri Lords’ Nabjauban Besha today

After a confinement in the Anansar Ghar for long 13 days for treatment, Lord Jagannath and His siblings, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Suvadra, who were sick are now fully well and would appear with renewed vigour before the devotees on Tuesday. The appearance of the deities is called Nabajauban Darshan, which would be observed on Tuesday.

The message of recovery from fever was conveyed to the Gajapati King Dibyasingha Dev late on Sunday by  Daitapati servitors who were in charge of care and treatment of the Lords. In a procession

to the palace of King Dibyasingha Dev, which is just 100 meters away from the Lions’ Gate of the Jagannath temple, the servitors arrived there and apprised the Gajapati of the good health of the divine siblings. The Gajapti also sought to know from the Daitapatis about other well-beings of the Lords and requested them to make preparations ready for the upcoming RathYatra, scheduled on July 4. This is a centuries old practice being observed on the eve of RathYatra every year.

After various cares and treatments to the Lords, on the 10th day, the deities were prescribed Ayurveda medicines as they got a complete relief from illness. The deities had fallen ill after bathing on Snana Mandap (bathing platform) on June 17, with 108 pots of water.

With the Nabajauban Darshan of the Lords here in Puri temple, the 14-day long Anasar festival of Lord Alarnath in Brahmagiri came to an end. Myth has it that during the fever period, Lord Alarnath offers views to pilgrims as representative of the three deities of the Shreemandir. Since the devotees are deprived of meeting the trinity due to fever, Lord Alarnath offers views as combined incarnation of the trinity.
