The residents of Lokanath Road here have protested the Tata’s running away from restoration works of a road after digging for underground cabling.
They have decided not to let the company work further in their area. A decision not to allow works came after Tata dug the road but did not repair the underground cablings. It left the crowded road in a poor condition which is connecting the Jagannath Temple from both sea beach and the National Highway. Due to opposition, Tata has not been able to resume works further at other parts of the road.
According to the residents, many accidents have taken place during the New Year crowd due to holes all along the road. Even the tile road connecting the house of local MLA is at its worst condition after underground cabling, said the locals, adding that Tata has damaged the roads without permission of the municipality.
Sources said that Tata has undertaken cabling works at Lokanath Road including many other streets near here. The municipality has recently converted them to tile roads for both beautification and longevity. For cabling, Tata laid cable after digging holes but left them as they are.
The road working as a major connecting way for VIPs and tourists to the Jagannath Temple had been repaired a few months ago. Reacting over negligence of Tata, Municipality Executive Officer Saroj Swain said they are still unaware of restoration of the road after cabling.
