Opposing the action of the State Government to release the accused through camp court inside the jail, the lawyers of Puri staged huge protests in front of the District Sessions Court and burnt an effigy of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday.
They also burnt tyres and blocked the road which affected the traffic movement for hours near here. Condemning the divisionary tactic of the Government, they demanded arrest of the police personnel involved in the attack of Cuttack lawyers on August 28.
Not daring the order, even almost all the Government lawyers in Puri refrained from the camp court due to opposition of their agitating colleagues.
In fear of attack on them, the Government lawyers were found mingling their tone with protesting members.
However, some 30 accused were freed on bail through camp court in the Puri district jail, although the number is yet not confirmed.
“No lawyer helped the camp court as the accused were released on Personal Release (PR) bond. Only judges and bailers were present in jail during the bail hearing,” said lawyer Rama Chandra Mahapatra to The Pioneer.
