Puri Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb has submitted an affidavit before the Justice BP Das Commission of Inquiry suggesting reforms in rituals and management of the Shree Jagannath Temple of Puri.
The Commission Secretary collected the copy of the affidavit from the Maharaja’s official residence in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday, the last date for submission of affidavits before the commission.
Similarly, the Puri district administration through its Collector and the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration through its Chief Administrative Officer also on the day submitted their respective affidavits before the commission.
The Shankaracharya of the Gobardhan Peeth of Puri had earlier conveyed his suggestions to the commission on reforms for the temple.
Sources said the judicial commission instituted by the State Government to suggest measures for better security of the temple, safety of the visiting devotees, timely conduct of temple rituals and welfare of the servitors has received more than 1,000 affidavits. The commission was set up in July after the Niladree Bije fiasco this year.
