Puri consumer forum chief-member row comes to fore

It seems all is not well with the district consumer disputes redressal forum as a row between a member and the president of the forum has come to the fore with the former filing a complaint against the latter for threatening him to kill him.

According to the FIR filed on Monday, the row between the member and the president began relating to a consumer case.

lawyer Nrusingh Charan Mohanty, who presented a case seeking legal address against the CESU before the forum was peeved over the actions of the president and had written letters to the commissioner and other authorities regarding poor performance, inordinate delay in disposal of disputes and harassment of litigants in the forum, besides dictatorial attitude of the president.

The president deferred the date to one month citing the ground that the lawyer had filed complaint petition against him.

The lawyer pleaded that since the case was urgent as its fate would decide the power connection to a domestic house, it be decided by the other two members.

And member RR Naidu present in the forum agreed to hear thecase. To this, the president got angry and allegedly threatened Naidu to kill him.

The sea beach police registered a criminal case on the basis of the FIR and on Tuesday sub inspector NK Panda went to the forum and recorded the statement of Naidu and other lawyers and litigants present during the incident.

The police said action would be taken in accordance to legal provisions and nobody would be spared.
